Halloween Pajamas
Halloween pajamas are such a great way to get excited about the holiday! This has become a huge tradition in my house and I typically give them matching sets early in the month to launch a month of Halloween fun.
You can keep your eye out for matching sets, but my go-to every year has become The Children’s Place Halloween collection. They always have matching sets (they even have matching sets for parents, dogs and dolls!) and their deals are so great that they’re often the cheapest around.
This is a really fun tradition that you’ll be so glad to start!
Halloween Books for Kids
Books are always a wonderful way to get kids excited about something and there are some really great Halloween books for kids out there! What I love about this idea is that you don’t have to purchase a ton of new books every year…you can pull out last year’s and still surprise your kids with them. And then just focus on adding one or two new ones!
Here are some of the best Halloween books for kids:
- Room on the Broom
- Goodnight Goon
- How to Catch a Monster
- The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything

Monster Spray
Monster spray is one of my favorite gifts even when it isn’t time for Halloween!
The spray is actually just mildly lavender-scented and helps kids sleep…but the concept is absolutely brilliant. They’re supposed to spray wherever they think monsters may hide at night.
And it absolutely works.
My kids get so excited to use Monster Spray that we’ve already been through two bottles of this stuff over the years.
Pair this with the book How to Catch a Monster and you have a really cute Halloween gift idea!
Paint-By-Sticker Halloween Book
My kids LOVE paint-by-sticker books and there is actually a Halloween-themed one!
These books are really easy and addictive – they simply match a numbered sticker to the corresponding space.
This is a great activity that can be done throughout the month and can be shared between kids.
The creations can also be used as decorations which is an added bonus!
Halloween Tree with Ornaments
A Halloween tree is really a gift for the whole family, but it’s such a fun way to get your kids excited about Halloween, it’s an amazing decoration to have in the house and it’s a great tradition to start!
Picking a Halloween tree is really up to your personal preference. You can opt for a Christmas-ish evergreen that is black (or even just use a green one!) or you can opt for a twiggy look like this one (this is the one that I use!).
The best part about having a Halloween tree is that you open up the possibility for so many fun Halloween crafts!
You can purchase Halloween ornaments, make them on your own, or just create other little decorations for it the same way you would for Christmas.
Halloween Craft Kits
I LOVE finding craft kits that come with all of the supplies and these Halloween-themed ones are the perfect activity for the month of October!
The crafts are easy and fun – and then can be used as decorations once you’re done.
These are great if you need rainy day activities…or just fun things to do to keep the kids occupied while they’re stuck at home.
Halloween Monster Catching Kit
This is another great Halloween gift idea for kids that can keep you totally busy all month!
A few of these ideas are already scattered throughout the list, but you can put together an adorable Monster Catching Kit that will help them use their imagination to catch monsters all month long (and if you’re lucky, through the winter!).
My kids are obsessed with “catching monsters”, so this is something that I’m really excited to do this year! Here are some ideas to put in your Monster Catching Kit:
- How to Catch a Monster Book
- Monster Spray
- Head Lamp (this is perfect if you end up trick-or-treating!)
- Explorer Set (binoculars, magnifying glass, etc)
Halloween Glow-in-the-Dark Socks
If you ask me, socks should be part of every occasion. So these Halloween socks are a perfect way to add some fun and excitement to Halloween!
They glow in the dark, which is such a fun twist.
And they’re also purposefully “mismatched” which is another cute idea!
This is a good alternative to pajamas if you need something less expensive…and can definitely be used way beyond Halloween.
Halloween Activity Books
Halloween activity books are a no-brainer!
This is such a fun way to get them excited about the holiday AND keep them busy.
Plus, many of these activities are educational in nature, so it’s really a win-win.
I will definitely be adding these to my kids’ Boo Baskets this year! 😉
Pumpkin Carving Set
Don’t forget a pumpkin carving set for your kids!
This month can be full of pumpkin fun and if you’re stuck inside more than normal, then go all out and do more pumpkins than you normally would.
This is something that you’ll almost certainly want to make a tradition out of, so add it to your list of October surprises and buy yourself some extra points.
Paint and Mini Pumpkins
Carving pumpkins isn’t the only way to decorate with pumpkins…and for younger kids, it’s not as easy as you’d hope.
So get some washable kid paint and buy a bunch of mini pumpkins and let them decorate them however they want!
You can add stickers or glitter to the mix if you’re brave.
And then when you’re done, find a decorative bowl or basket and pile them all in as a centerpiece.
While this is perfect for little kids, it can also be so much fun for older kids…and honestly, even adults!
Monster Slippers
These monster slippers are so unbelievably adorable.
This is something that can be used all winter long…and the best part is that they come in different colors!
I’ve gotten these slippers in the past and they were such a huge hit with my kids.
This is also another great idea to put with a Monster Catching Kit if that is one of your themes this year.
I hope you have an amazing and very special Halloween! If you don’t get a chance to go Trick-or-Treating, these gifts and activities will still make the holiday a special one to remember.
Happy Halloween!
