Many of these Halloween books are fun and interactive, some are great before bedtime and others are perfect for them to read on their own. Any topic that gets kids excited about reading is worth it – so surprise them with an amazing Halloween book this year!

Halloween I Spy
The classic I Spy of our childhood is now available with a Halloween twist!
If you somehow missed I Spy books in your youth, each page challenges kids (or adults) to find certain items in an extra busy scene – and in this case, they’re all Halloween related.
This is definitely one of the best Halloween books to choose from. It’s perfect for all ages and could even sit out as a coffee table book. It’s one of those traditions that your kids will start to look forward to year after year!
Goodnight Goon
Goodnight Goon is one of the greatest Halloween books and a hilarious parody based off of the classic Goodnight Moon.
With the same rhyming tune as its predecessor, Goodnight Goon proceeds to travel through a haunted house saying goodnight to goblins, ghosts and all of their creepy friends.
This is definitely a Halloween book that you’ll pull out each year. It’s great to have in your collection!
Room on the Broom
Room on the Broom is an absolute classic that is perfect for young kids, especially since Netflix has a video that matches it!
The story is simple and sweet, with Halloween characters that soften some of the scariness of Halloween. It follows a witch as she travels on her broom, making room for new friends along the way.
This is another Halloween book your kids will be so excited to pull out each year! It’s a great addition to your collection.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat
If you have a young reader on your hands, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat is the perfect Halloween book for them!
This book is part of a whole series based off of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, but this one is special for Halloween.
There’s tons of rhyming, repetition and silly content that kids will absolutely love. It’s a great one for elementary-aged kids!
Spooky Wheels on the Bus
The Spooky Wheels on the Bus takes one of the best classic songs and puts a Halloween twist on it!
This book is great for all ages, but especially younger children that already love singing The Wheels on the Bus.
This is another fun holiday book that will turn into a great tradition that your kids will look forward to each year.
Hoot Howl Halloween
If it makes noise they’ll love it – which is exactly what Hoot Howl Halloween does!
This interactive Halloween book has different buttons that make creepy noises that go along with the story.
Kids (and especially young ones) just can’t get enough of these books and one of the best parts is that it’s something they’ll play with on their own.
If you put this book away every year and only bring it out for Halloween, it will become even more exciting!
The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin
The Itsy Bitsy Pumpkin is another great classic song with a Halloween theme that’s perfect for younger kids.
This book – based off of the Itsy Bitsy Spider – is part of a full series of Itsy Bitsy characters, so if your child loves this book, there are fun alternatives for every holiday!
This one comes as a board book, so it’s also sturdy enough to handle toddler hands.
Ten Timid Ghosts
Ten Timid Ghosts is another great book for preschoolers or young readers!
Ten ghosts slowly widdle away to none as a cute storyline has them scared from their home…but in the end can they win back their haunted house?
This is a great choice all on its own, but it’s also perfect if you’re looking for something inexpensive to add to your collection.
The Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat
What would any holiday or occasion be without a Berenstain Bears lesson tied in? Berenstain Bears Trick or Treat is an ideal choice for elementary and preschool-aged kids.
It celebrates the holiday, but also teaches kids that not everything that appears scary really is.
This is a great way to reinforce how kids should be treating each other, while still having fun with Halloween!
Babies Love Halloween
The Babies Love collection is absolutely perfect for your baby’s first books and their Halloween version is an amazing way to introduce them to this fun holiday!
Each page has a simple rhyme with a flap to introduce new Halloween characters.
Babies Love books are always at the top of my gift giving list when it comes to 1-year olds, so if you have a little one on your hands, this is the book for them!
Good Night, Little Monster
Good Night, Little Monster is a cute story about a monster and his bedtime routine that avoids being scary, while still being fun for Halloween.
This is a book that works for so many different ages and is perfect to read at your kids’ own bedtime because it will mimic all the routines that they have (only, theirs are a bit more human ;-)).
This choice is sweet and silly, but not too scary! It’s another great addition to your Halloween book collection.
Halloween Paint-with-Sticker Book
This Halloween Paint-with-Sticker book isn’t technically a book you read with…but it is still so, so amazing and one of those activities that your kids will have so much fun with!
The concept is similar to paint-by-number, except with stickers. So each page is a Halloween design broken into tiny sections with a little number. Your child needs to find the sticker with the matching number and slowly but surely build a beautiful piece of artwork with it.
My children have both been obsessed with these, so they are always turning up for holidays and special occasions!
I hope you find the perfect Halloween book for your kids this year! Have a great holiday.
